{DKH Longest-Serving Employees Spotlight}

 In celebration of 125 years of service, Day Kimball Healthcare (DKH) is showcasing many of our longest-serving employees who have dedicated 40 or more years to our organization. Here’s a chance to get a more personal look at the people woven into the history of your community hospital.

This month we recognize Gail Mailhot, health records analyst in the medical records department at Day Kimball Hospital, who began working at DKH in 1973. Gail’s roots with DKH go further back to her birth here at the Hospital. She currently resides in Danielson, CT.

In reflecting on what makes DKH special, Gail shared “We probably have the most long-serving employees anywhere!”

What sparked your interest in healthcare? I actually wanted to be a hair dresser, but was offered a position in the medical records department at DKH.

Do you remember your first day of work at DKH? Yes, I was only 18 years old and very nervous!

What roles have you had at DKH? I have performed daily census, transcription, and inpatient coding.

What do you like most about your job? I enjoy all the reading I do before I code the chart.

What do you like most about working at DKH? What have you gained? The friendships I have made in my time here.

What is your proudest moment at DKH? My proudest moment at DKH was earning my certification as a coding specialist.

What is your fondest memory of your time at DKH so far? Learning how to use a computer. When I started, coding was done on paper abstracts.

With this being DKH’s 125th anniversary, what do you think makes DKH so special? I think what makes DKH special is that we probably have the most long-serving employees anywhere.
What do you like to do outside of work? I am very involved with my church.
