Allison Clancy, registered nurse (RN) for Day Kimball Hospital’s inpatient behavioral health unit, has been named employee of the month for October by Day Kimball Healthcare (DKH).

Clancy began working for DKH in November 2017. In her role, she is responsible for assisting in the treatment of and providing therapeutic support to patients in acute mental health crisis.

According to Clancy’s supervisor, Peter Neal, Ph.D., LPC, director of behavioral health, Day Kimball Healthcare, “Allison is very deserving of this recognition and I am proud of her and the department. She goes above and beyond when caring for patients and assisting her colleagues and is a pleasure to work with. Allison is kind and courteous to our patients and is a great role model in the behavioral health department.”

In response to being named employee of the month, Clancy said, “I feel humbled. I work with such an amazing group of individuals that are always inspiring me to strive to become a better nurse.”

When asked what she likes most about her job, Clancy said, “I enjoy being a small part of trying to end the stigma surrounding mental illness. It’s rewarding to make a positive impact on people and help them get their lives back on track. I like to help them feel human and not broken by showing them they have the potential to do wonderful things with their lives, even when they can’t see it for themselves yet.”

Clancy earned her associate’s degree in nursing from the Community College of Rhode Island. In her spare time, she works as a veterinary technician at a local clinic and when the opportunity arises, Clancy enjoys caring for orphaned newborn puppies.

Clancy was born at Day Kimball Hospital and has resided in Northeast Connecticut her entire life. She currently lives with her boyfriend and their 3 dogs, 3 cats, and 3 bunnies.
