Perhaps the term “compassion” has lost its depth through overuse. Often, it merely implies empathy, however, its essence lies in “being with another person’s suffering.”
Throughout history, mystics have understood their own suffering as a way to profoundly connect with others in their pain. Perhaps, by reflecting on our own experiences of suffering and genuinely sharing in another’s pain, we can deepen our compassion.
This deeper compassion may drive us to enhance our care for the sick and to seek cures and improved methods of caregiving.
Please join us in welcoming Thomas Moore, author of the number one New York Times bestseller Care of the Soul, for this important discussion on compassion.
