Cancer is more than a disease. It’s a life-changing event. At Day Kimball Health, we see cancer care from your perspective. From diagnosis to treatment to follow-up care, our top physicians, cancer specialists, certified nurse oncologists, and therapists work together to provide you with a completely personalized treatment plan.
It’s a 360-degree program that considers every aspect of your life, from physical wellness to diet and nutrition – even financial counseling. And while cancer can be frightening, it’s reassuring to know that all this care is within minutes of home.
Every day, patients facing the challenge of fighting cancer come to DKH for help. Curing your cancer is always our goal. We’re finding options that not only treat your cancer but also get you back to what’s important to you.
We work hard to confront cancer well before any diagnosis of this challenging disease. Day Kimball’s state-of-the-art imaging services include a wide variety of sophisticated technologies, including clinical breast exams and mammograms, bone density tests, prostate cancer screenings, colonoscopies, low-dose CT lung cancer screenings, genetic testing for those with a family history or high risk of cancer, and more.
Our hematology/oncology unit at Day Kimball Hospital’s Cancer Center provides compassionate, first-class cancer care right here in Northeast Connecticut.
Our Cancer Care program, which has received national accreditation with commendations from the Commission on Cancer (CoC), provides patients the same care as large cancer centers, but close to home.
Your cancer care team is dedicated to providing you with expert, compassionate care specific to your unique needs. Our board-certified medical oncologists, surgeons, certified oncology nurses, nurse navigator, pharmacists, dieticians, therapists, social workers, and others work together to provide you with the highest level of personalized care in a convenient and comfortable environment.
When you come to Day Kimball, you get more than a doctor. You get an entire team. Your nurse navigator will guide you every step of the way, starting from the time of diagnosis, through your treatment and recovery — so you can worry less and focus your energy on getting well.
Serving as your advisor and advocate, your nurse navigator acts as your main point of contact and is there to help coordinate your appointments and provide you with education and support. She can get you connected to financial assistance resources, support groups, social services, and much more.
Our highly skilled surgeons and state-of-the-art facilities offer the highest-quality surgical cancer care using the latest in robotic and minimally invasive techniques. Specializing in breast, gynecology, colon, rectal, lung, urology, and more, our surgical team provides a wide range of surgical services for cancer patients, should you need surgical intervention.
Cancer affects more than just your body; it affects your whole life. That’s why we provide a holistic approach to your treatment, complete with a host of supportive services and complementary therapies right within our Cancer Center. Our registered dietitian nutritionist provides nutrition monitoring and guidance to complement your treatments. Our hospital-based food pantry supports cancer patients struggling with food insecurity. Our oncology social worker will connect you to appropriate community resources to resolve any logistical, financial, or social challenges that people often face while fighting cancer. We also host cancer support groups and workshops for you and your caregiver, physical activity programs, and more.
The community of Northeast Connecticut graciously and generously supports our Northeast Connecticut Cancer Fund of DKH, which provides financial assistance for cancer-related screening and treatment services. Any member of our cancer care team can help you access the resources available.
A cancer diagnosis often brings significant financial strain, leaving many already vulnerable patients facing tough decisions such as whether to pay bills or buy food. Nearly half of all oncology patients will deplete their life savings within two years of diagnosis.
To help ease this burden in our community, our hospital-based food pantry, Caitlyn’s Cupboard, provides essential nutritional support during treatment, helping to promote the best response to therapy, reduce fatigue, and improve overall quality of life.
